Nordstrom

Nordy Sale Edit

This year I shopped the sale early and think I have the best stand out apparel items, with a few shoes and accessories thrown in. This year I was able to register online to have a private shopping experience as an ambassador. This was a fun time to scour the sale before everything sold out. It was the time that I purchased pajamas, socks, the basic tees and Rails tops I recommend below, as well as try on the shoes in person.

At this point in the sale, items tend to go in and out of stock, so keep checking back for your must have items, such as a pair of Mother jeans that you will wear over and over throughout the year. I had one pair that I got from a past Nordstrom Trunk and it is the only pair I tend to grab for, so I bought a few different styles during the sale. I am especially excited about the black denim options in slightly flared and straight leg silhouettes, which will make for endless outfit options.

My closet is covered with black capsule pieces, so I did have my eye on a few cozy camel pieces to sprinkle in for the autumn/winter season. My focus was high quality fabrics such as cashmere, wool and cotton. Most people would steer you towards the Reiss classic camel coat, but from experience I can tell you that you will get a better discount during Reiss sales than on Reiss coats during Nordstrom sales. Every year I lust after a Vince cardigan, so this year I went for a coatigan, that offers the warmth of a coat, with the effortless look of a cardigan, (though it is technically called a wool jacket.) In person, it looks less structured than a typical winter jacket. This ruana from Nordstrom’s own brand is also a favorite, and would make the perfect addition to a chilly day in the office or an easy airplane outfit in the winter months. I only have one go-to sweater dress in my closet, which I purchased during the Nordstrom sale last year in grey, so I also picked up this year’s version in light beige. I find it a work-appropriate dress for those freezing days, and style it with leather ankle boots.

Now for the standout pieces that were at the top of my list. Bring on the Veronica Beard….and the other work hard, play hard outerwear and dresses. I would consider these investment pieces, but they work from the office to date night, which I think makes them worth the splurge. All of these items would work with other basics in your wardrobe, such as a classic handbag and great pair of black heels or boots. The Nordstrom stripe cardigan sold out surprisingly fast and is amazing quality. It’s a beautiful pop to add to a black pair of denim and a simple black tank. The houndstooth Veronica Beard pieces are beyond beautiful in an evergreen tweed with black hardware. They look amazing as an outfit, and will be equally great paired with other items in my wardrobe. The L’agence houndstooth jacket was a hot seller that I only got because I placed an online order at midnight on the 11th. The caramel and black houndstooth combination is eye-catching, though I questioned myself for spending this much on a piece made of polyester. If I could only pick 5 items from the entire sale, it would be the Veronica Beard tweed dress and tweed blazer, the L’agence houndstooth blazer, a pair of Celine sunglasses, and the Valentino lipstick clutch set (featured below).

Tops are not the category that I focus on during the Anniversary Sale, but I did find a few affordable options that will be workhorses in my wardrobe. I featured 3 different color options for the Halogen Raw Edge tank because it is a piece I wear so often and even travel with and it easily can be made to look professional or more casual. It also washes well and on sale, you can grab it for $30 or less, depending on the color combination. The Rails blouses are more elevated and more pricey, but I wore the pink and white check Ellis shirt instantly, with pink heels and white denim its major Barbie vibes in a low-key style. I think it also works well for a more casual office environment. Another standout is the Paige white ruffle sleeveless sweater; it’s a classy piece that will go beautifully with almost anything in your closet. I only purchased a few dresses during the sale, one being this jacquard evergreen dress. It is fully lined, in a more conservative, figure flattering silhouette with leather trim. This is a favorite because you can easily pair it with a blazer and booties for work, or a biker jacket and stilettos for a night out.

As far as accessories go, the Kurt Geiger belt bag is one that might get overlooked, but looks amazing styled. I purchased it in the black version, which is quite edgy with the monochrome black hardware and chain. The matching belt would make for a killer combination, and the quilted leather is beautiful. These tassel earrings are something I buy each year in a different color; this year I purchased them in white and they give any outfit extra pizazz. Style Tip: Pair the ivory tassel earrings with the pink and white Rails Ellis shirt. Finally, for the sunglasses. I do love Celine sunglasses. I have the classic flat top pair from last year Anniversary sale, so picked up the square sunglasses and flat top ombre pairs this year. If I could only pick one, I would go for the 55mm square version. They are unbelievably classic in the expected Celine quality. Celine sunglasses have this undeniable edge to them that amps up even the most basic outfits. 9 times out of 10, I reach for my Celine sunglasses over all other brands.

For shoes, I kept it simple. I did purchase each of these shoes, because I needed some new easy black shoes. The first two are comfort shoes, in styles that I think are really quite cute and will get me through an 8 hour work day. I like that the Soft bootie has a low heel but still has the look of a trendy fall bootie. The Ilse Jacobsen sneakers are unbelievably comfortable. They have a foamy buttery feel, with a cushioned sole, great for the gals who are on their feet all day. My other two recommendations are both waterproof Blondo boots, one in a chic ankle length, and the other knee length to style with jeans and mini dresses.

Top Beauty Pick…literally the one recommendation that I think is the best value, of probably the entire sale. A Valentino lipstick set that comes with one full lipstick, 4 refills, all housed in a stunning leather studded clutch. Unlike makeup bags that usually come with sets, this looks and feels like a true Valentino clutch. It honestly is nicer and heavier than some designer clutches I have. Inside is a mirror and an organizer holding the lipsticks. You can pop out the organizer when you want to use the clutch. The full sized lipstick in a bold red has the embossed Valentino studded design in the lipstick. I like that most of the refills come in beautiful neutral shades. To make this value even better, you get a gift with purchase, a Valentino cosmetics case that also has a mirror. This is an amazing gift for yourself or the ultimate Christmas gift for the beauty lover in your life. The cosmetic bag that comes free with this purchase is currently out of stock, though Nordstrom is now offering a mini Valentino lipstick as the gift with purchase.

Last-Minute Gifts

Christmas Gift Guide 2019.png

In case you are on the hunt for last-minute Christmas gifts, I wanted to offer a selection of items with different price ranges. These are all items that I already own, so obviously I liked them enough to spend my own money on them. Sometimes we need just a little extra-something for a loved one around the holidays, and I think one (or two) or these may just be the thing to wrap under the tree.

The luxe option with the highest price point would be this Valentino cardholder. A festive red would also be a great alternative…especially since I can no longer find this vibrant pink color way anywhere other than re-sale websites like Tradesy or Fashionphile. Nordstrom offers the best color selection by far. In case you love a bubblegum shade as much as I do, this color way is called Giacinto. These cardholders retail for $295.00, but Nordstrom offered over $100.00 off for Black Friday. I expect similar deals to launch, following Christmas Day.

There was also an amazing Chloe cardholder, at a slightly lower price, but the logo covered the entire cardholder, so I thought the Valentino version was more classic and versatile.

Beauty Fridges.png

Next up is a much more affordable option…a semi-practical one with a fun twist. I am so over the moon with my mini beauty fridge. I found it at T.J. Maxx and grabbed it immediately. It would work for someone who likes to have cool refreshments at-hand at the office, or a beauty and skincare junkie like myself.

Beauty Mini Fridge.jpg

I am using it for its designed purpose…to keep my skincare products cold, for a refreshing spa-like experience at home. It could fit several mini sodas, and would be also a cute option for a teenager. I have seen the mini fridges in black and grey, but I have never before seen it in this gorgeous lacquered, glossy baby pink.

Ulta has their own version, though they are charging $89.99, and I got my cute little pink version for $39.99. The pink version I found on FaceTory has a fun retro vibe, but costs $99.00. The rose gold beauty fridge from vanity planet is the net-a-porter version as far as mini fridges go, but will cost you $127.99. I’ve included several other links to mini fridges. The Cooluli version has the most similar look to the one I have and it comes in baby pink, baby blue, hot pink, and even cow print!

Beauty Fridge Under the tree.jpg

For one big gift, I think a mini beauty fridge stocked with a skincare product or two would be perfect. This allows you to really customize the gift according to the gift recipient. Choose a beauty fridge in their favorite color and select a few beauty (or skincare items) from their favorite beauty brand.

I loved this gift idea so much that I decided to wrap it under the tree for my mom. She loves bubble baths and skincare products, so I stocked her beauty fridge with a few products for a luxury bath experience. Because the items I chose were larger, I removed the shelf in the beauty fridge to fit them both in. That’s another advantage to this specific beauty fridge…the shelf is removable.

Speaking of beauty, what girl doesn’t love a luxurious lipstick?

It may be the smallest and most affordable gift all…but good things come in small packages. Of course, this is another item that would fit perfectly in a mini beauty fridge, or you could put it in a sachet bag and hide it on the tree for the recipient to find.

Nars lipstick.jpg

This is is the 2018 holiday lipstick from Nars in Siouxsie. It is a deep, dark red. The bullet feels luxurious, with metallic and magnetic packaging.

Any lipstick in festive packaging will work great as a stocking stuffer, or a little extra something tucked inside another gift. I will list a few lipstick options from current collections below.

I hope these ideas assist you in finishing up your holiday shopping. Instead of buying so many gifts, I think it’s important to consider who you are buying for, what their interests are, and what type of gift they would appreciate. A good rule of thumb when gift giving, is to give something that you would love to receive.

Lately, these beauty fridges have become a bit of a trend, so I would explore your local Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx or explore the links above.

The “beauty” of this gift is that you can customize it for your loved one and give something that can be used and enjoyed on a daily basis. Now that I own a beauty fridge, I look forward to reaching for my chilled moisturizer every morning and evening.

Happy Christmas Shopping!

Styling Zimmerman Pieces

Zimmerman circque.jpg

Today I am stepping way from my comfort zone and styling the boldest print in my entire closet. I wore it recently when I attended a Cirque De Soleil show, which was an incredible experience. I figured if there was any occasion to experiment with my style, it was this evening. I realize that it isn’t the ideal season to feature floral mini skirts and mini dresses, but I do believe that you should buy what you love and when you find your perfect dress, skirt, or whatever, you should buy it, as long as you’ll wear it next summer or spring.

It is so much better to buy your dream summer dress, even when its snowing outside, than to buy a handful of random sweaters that don’t resonate with your signature style. Buy what you love, regardless of the season, as long as the piece is one you see yourself wearing time and time again. With that said, Zimmerman is my go-to for summer and spring dresses and stunning floral prints.

I already had this Zimmerman pleated skirt in my closet, and immediately knew I would wear it to the show. I just had to find the right top to go with it. I have very few white blouses, so finding the perfect one for this skirt was quite challenging. This was a reminder to me that I need to invest in basics before splurging on eye-catching pieces. The Outnet styled the skirt with an emerald camisole. I searched high and low for this exact one, but every green cami I found was slightly the wrong shade. The skirt is already such a punch of color that I prefer a more subdued top or blouse. The skirt has pure white in it, so any cream or ivory blouses I found also looked a bit off. I even tried to pull out the peach in the skirt, but I do think that the bolder the skirt, the simpler the top should be.

Styling tip: Before you buy a statement piece, think what basics you already own that you can pair with it. High quality basics make your wardrobe work, and a few statement pieces sprinkled in keep your closet fresh.

I also own the dress in this same print from Zimmerman. I just loved the floral so much. With a floral this bold, I actually think the dress version is easier to style. Because the colors in the skirt are so bold and vivid, it was such a challenge to match. I actually don’t go for yellow, but because the dress is a more casual style in a fun print and gorgeous fabric, it is a killer dress.

Usually, though, a skirt option is more versatile than a dress. The advantage to a flirty skirt like this is that you can make it casual with white sleek sneakers, or super dressy and leg-lengthening with nude heels.

The Outnet has an amazing selection of Zimmerman, and several pieces with this same print, even a blouse. That may be the most wearable version; you can style it with white denim or trousers.

Eventually, I found a gorgeous lace blouse from the brand Bardot from Nordstrom. I would definitely suggest their blouses for a romantic, but feminine silhouette. They offer everything from date night dresses, to eyelet tops, to fully sheer, sexy lace tops. It’s tricky to style mini skirts as it gets colder, but cotton, long-sleeved tops make it more weather-appropriate, especially since the Cirque de Soleil show was on ice!
